Report Shines Light on Top Networks For Sharing Information
Facebook is easily retaining its firm grip as the leader of social networks.
A new report by Shareaholic shows the network has remained on top for the first quarter of 2014 with relative newcomer Pinterest edging northward as the second most popular social network. Twitter rounds out the top three of the eight networks included in the report.
Following the top three, respectively, are StumbleUpon, Reddit, YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn.
“This report takes a look at how much traffic the eight most popular social media platforms referred to our network of sites,” wrote Shareholic’s Danny Wong. “The Shareaholic network is well diversified, with sites ranging from independent lifestyle blogs to publishing companies to commerce sites.”
Shareaholic tracks traffic on more than 300,000 websites which reach more than 400 million unique visitors each month.
It boils down to the fact Facebook continues to be the No. 1 platform for reaching people. Ironic, Wong said in his report, considering the ongoing battle surrounding the limited reach companies are now seeing due to the changes Facebook has made to the pages people ‘like.’
“Facebook still continues to refer loads of traffic to websites when users share links they enjoy with all of their friends,” the report stated. “Though, last month, Eat24 caused a ruckus because it initiated a ‘breakup’ with Facebook, brands will never be bold enough to actually prevent users from ‘liking’ or ‘sharing’ things from their sites to Facebook. Eat24′s popular breakup letter received more than 26k Facebook likes and shares. While most brands may have lost faith in their Fan Pages, they know the world’s largest social network will still bless them with tons of organic traffic.”
Showing strong results, as well, was second place Pinterest which saw its traffic grow nearly 50 per cent in the months reported on, December 2013 to March 2014.
