What is good web design?

A good website design is a crucial part your business success. The design can make or break a website. This may seem a no-brainer to most people, but it is often overlooked, especially when free web design software or templates are readily available to save money. If you are trying to establish a “serious” presence for you or your organization, it is best to find someone with the education, tools, and talent that are required to build a professional design.

The look and feel of your website is a reflection of your entire business. The better your website navigates, reads and looks, the more professional your organization will appear to the person viewing it. If the navigation is needlessly confusing, the look “off” or immature, or the content below par, the percentage of actual contacts you receive will be much lower.

It takes just a few seconds for a visitor to decide whether or not they like a website. This seems like a very short amount of time, and it is. However, consider your own viewing and browsing habits. Generally, we know the information, service, or product we seek; the more readable, and aesthetically pleasing the website, the more likely we are to use it instead of searching for another, “better” one. This is the importance of good web design.

With so many websites showing up on a Google search, most of us are pretty picky about what we consider to be a legitimate business or a fly-by-night just based on how it looks. In other words, good design means good first impressions. The more complimentary the colors, format, content, and structure are can keep a visitor on the website. There is also a better chance that they will find what they need, buy, bookmark, or come back. Good design is important because it not only gives your website a better chance of success but also because it makes life so much easier for those of us who spend time on the web searching for products and services.

When setting about to put your organization on the web, take some time and find a designer or design that is “’right” for you. While good design is important, you should also remember that what constitutes “good design”’ is relative. Each business needs to project its own unique brand and image. A good web design is able to do this in an original and functional way that translates a website’s image into a company’s success.
