You haven’t updated your free Google Business Listing

Spammers are cold calling local businesses and claiming you need to update your Google Business Listing.

I am getting this automated phone call at least three times a week. It then asks you to press 1 to update your listing and 9 to be removed from the list. I’m here to tell you they are not from Google and pressing “9” does not get you off the list.

The calls get excessive and are very annoying. If you have call blocking, that will help.

I actually decided to play along and find out what their game was last week, so I pressed “1”. A nice sounding man came on the line and said that I need to update my Google listing. When I asked him why he said my website isn’t ranking as high as it should and that he could get my website on page one of Google.

My answer to that was “I am already number 1 on page 1 of both Google and Bing.  Can you top that”? I got a bit of silence, and he said, “uh no”. I replied, “I could probably teach you a thing or two about SEO.”  He hung up…

The fact is, there is nothing to update on your Google listing unless you have changed your contact information or website address.  This is a company who is preying on small business owners for their own financial gain.  The way they start out, with deceptive tactics, makes me think they are not ethical and someone you do not want to do business with.  If you receive this call, I would suggest blocking the number if you can.
